Flowers [a]re primarily used to deliver messages that [can]’t be spoken aloud. There are over 30 special meanings for roses alone. Red roses symbolize love and desire, but roses come in a variety of colors, and each has its own meaning. A red rosebud leaning to the left would say: You are pure and lovely. A Carolina rose means that love is dangerous; an Austrian rose means that thou art all that is lovely. Foliage has an additional significance, leaves meaning hope, thorns danger. Therefore, a rose with the thorns plucked off but the leaves intact would convey hopeful love and confidence. The rose has been a symbol of beauty, love, and passion for thousands of years, and it remains so today, even as their variation grows: from old roses to species roses to wild ones. Still, the red rose remains chief among them all, symbolic of deep, true love, commitment, romance, and desire.
